Kemble Airfield Day - 8th August 2009

Information

BSE Motorsport and Rebel Motorsport Club are pleased to announce details of the forthcoming car and driver activity day at Kemble Airfield, Gloucestershire. The day will be run and organised by the Bristol-based company, Launch Motorsport.

When:
Saturday 8th August 2009

Where:
Kemble Airfield, Kemble Enterprise Park, Kemble, Cirencester, Gloucestershire, GL7 6BA.

Please note that the airfield straddles the border between Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, hence it may be listed under Wiltshire in some circumstances!

There is a maximum limit of 50 cars for the day as this ensures that attendees have plenty of drive time during the various activities. The day itself is split into two sessions. The morning session is primarily an opportunity to get used to the airfield surface and for getting a feel for what you and your car are capable of (if you didn't aloready know). This leaves the afternoon session open for many other activities - 0 to 60 runs, high-speed runs, timed laps, handling practice and free runs.

On site catering and toilet facilities are available so there should be no need to leave the airfield during the event.

Rules and Guidelines

As with any event such as this there are rules and regulations that have to be adhered to. Any breaking of the rules will result in expulsion from the event and potentially the Club. A brief overview of the rules is given below so please read through them carefully:

You will not be allowed onto the site unless you sign the disclaimer. The reason for this is because your insurance will not be valid and you need to be responsible for your vehicle and any passengers that are with you.

No burnouts as this causes damage to the surface.

No racing. This is a practice day and we are not allowed to compete.

No drifting. This doesn't mean no sliding though. Drifting produces excessive tyre squeal which upsets the neighbours.

Do not deliberately drive on the grass. Kemble hold regular shows and they need to keep the grassy areas in good condition.

Please do as the marshals ask.

Once inside the controlled area idle speed only.

Please give each other space whilst on the runway.

No littering.

Any accidental damage to property will be covered by Launch Motorsport. Any damage caused by negligence will be covered by the Driver concerned.

All drivers will attend a short briefing prior to the days events.

On arrival, please park in the designated area.

Please be aware that crash helmets are NOT required for this event (although you are welcome to take one along if you so wish).

IMPORTANT: Please be advised that we would ask non-participants to refrain from turning up at the airfield. We are running a "No Spectators" policy for various reasons, including venue Health and Safety reasons.

Drivers' Brief and Disclaimer

It is important that those taking part in this event carefully read and understand the following Drivers' Brief before engaging in any activity on the airfield.

Kemble Airfield Drivers' Brief

There are 3 flag colours to be aware of - red, yellow and green. They have the following meaning:

RED flag - Stop! There is either a problem or the track is not clear.

YELLOW flag - Warning! Beware that another car is close by or may be having problems so slow down.

GREEN flag - Go! The track is clear so go for it.

Marshals must be observed and obeyed at all times.

Signs and directions must be obeyed and followed at all times.

If you have a problem then pull off if possible and alert the nearest member of staff.

If you are aware of any spillage(s) then please alert the nearest member of staff so that it may be cleared up.

When not on track and engaging in activities, the maximum speed is 10mph.

If you are seen to be consistently breaking these rules or showing signs of dangerous driving you will be asked to leave with no refund given.

Directions

Rich, from Launch Motorsport, has kindly provided some instructions for getting to the venue for those travelling along the M4 motorway. Over to Rich...

"If you go purely on satnav instructions (to get to Kemble) then be aware that they usually take you to the wrong entrance! So, assuming that you're coming along the M4, exit at junction 17 and head towards Cirencester (A429). You'll see random signs for the airfield but simply stay on the A429 all the way - you can't miss it. I'll put Launch Motorsport signs up from the main entrance so it should be fairly straightforward."

Meeting Point for South Wales Attendees

For those travelling from the South Wales area there will be a convoy leaving from Magor Services (M4, Junction 23A) at 07:30am. If you wish to be a part of this convoy then please do ensure you arrive in good time as we will not be hanging around waiting for latecomers. We will meet everyone else at the airfield itself.

The subject of safety... We will remind those attending that we do not condone/endorse racing and we fully expect attendees to be law-abiding and to drive responsibly. If you want to drive like an idiot and rag the nuts off your car then please take it elsewhere and leave the rest of us to enjoy the event!

Depending on the event it is quite possible we'll be attracting a lot of attention so please respect other road users and avoid excessive noise/speed in public and built-up areas. Also worth bearing in mind is the fact that there will potentially be lots of bikers, cyclists and horse-riders out sharing and enjoying the roads with us. You know the drill... be extra vigilant and keep checking your mirrors. Please keep it sensible.
